Default How do you protect yourself in a situation with mechanic work by a small local...

...business? My girlfriend's car broke down and she was recommended a mechanic by the parts shop. She then paid the mechanic for the part (around $300) and would pay for service after completed. The payment was made through PayPal. He said he would have it done very soon. It has now been 3 weeks and he has been out only one day to take the car apart. He still keeps running around with her with things like, "oh I will get out to it soon" or "I was busy with something else."

It is now getting ridiculous and we both feel like because she is a young girl at college alone she is being taken advantage of. Is there anything we can do? Because she has not received the part in her car should we report it in Paypal? Is there a business protection she can go to? We both wish her car would just get fixed and save the trouble, but this is going on too long, when we could have gone somewhere else.
