Could I start a local business by reselling crickets?
The local pet stores sell crickets for about $1.50 for a dozen. That's 12.5 cents each. Online businesses sell them for 1 cent each. If I ordered 1,000 crickets, that's $10, and I sold them for 6 cents each, do you think I'd be successful? I'd need at least 5 customers to buy a dozen crickets (60 cents) 4 times a week to make any profit.
Yeah, it's cheaper online, but I'd be dealing locally and people wouldn't have to worry about picking up shipments and S&H fees. They can just stop buy and pick up crickets.
I could expand to other feeders too if crickets are successful. I already have all the stuff I'd need, so money isn't a problem in getting it started.
Any advice is welcome. I'm starting to get ahead of myself, so tell me if anything wouldn't work.
I live in San Antonio, so their are plenty of potential customers, plus I know a lot of people in the area who have reptiles that eat insects.
