Throught the movie The godfather part 1 tom hagen always refers as the other familys as "the 5 familys" e.g when he mentions the 5 familys may come after them and a number of other times the other 5 familys are mentioned. Does this mean that the Corleone family is not apart of the 5 familys?

I believe the Corleone family was part of the five families. The term was used simply for the repetition purpose and to show uniformity and the united front from the previous "war" (that they refur to throught the 3 films). The five families is a council of the heads of the different families basically to resolve any big problems that could cause another war. Again, I believe the Corleone family was one of the five.
